Dramatic drop in carrier bag use as charges now the ‘norm’

Campaigners, including MCS, say charges for throwaway coffee cups and plastic drinks bottles must be brought in as new evidence reveals a dramatic drop in carrier bag use since 5p charges were introduced. Estimates suggest that seven leading supermarkets issued 7.6 billion single-use bags in 2014 dropping to just over a billion in 2017-18.
